Grand Re-Opening This Thursday for The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store on Dimond

Anchorage, AK­­­ – This Thursday, July 11, 2019, from 12 – 2 PM, The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store on Dimond will be opening its doors for a grand re-opening celebration in partnership with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held promptly at 11:45 AM.

The thrift store, located at 501 E. Dimond Blvd., unit #2, in Anchorage, has been closed for the past seven months due to interior damage caused by the November 2018 earthquake that shook southcentral Alaska.

“It has been a process to get the store up and running again after repairs and I’m glad we are able to continue to offer affordable gently-used goods to the Anchorage community after a long-awaited reopening,” said Oscar Shaw IV, The Salvation Army Alaska Division Regional Retail Manager.

The grand re-opening will be a family-friendly affair with thrift store sales, door prizes, music, refreshments, kids’ face paintings and information about the good work of The Salvation Army in Anchorage and beyond.

Proceeds made from Salvation Army thrift store sales in Anchorage benefit local community programs and services provided by The Salvation Army. In Anchorage, The Salvation Army manages a family homeless shelter, food pantry, meal delivery for homebound senior citizens, an adult day care service, an award winning dual-diagnosis treatment program and two Corps community centers. In addition, The Salvation Army provides services through an emergency support unit and spiritual services through their Corps community centers.

“For us, it has been a countdown to this day and we are blessed to be able to hold this celebratory event with our Anchorage neighbors,” said Major John Brackenbury, The Salvation Army Alaska Divisional Commander.
