Salvation Army Family Thrift Store Celebrates Grand Reopening
Anchorage, AK – This Friday, April 30, 2021, The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store on Northern Lights Blvd. in Anchorage will be celebrating a grand reopening beginning at 10:00 AM (on the west side entrance of the store). This winter, the Family Thrift Store was closed intermittently and underwent several updates due in part to a significant legacy gift that was made by Richard Wayne Nyman, who used to stop into the Northern Lights thrift store every time he was passing by and had a moment to spare.
The updates to the store include a layout upgrade, including a cozy reading nook, more racks for donated clothes, organized sections for furniture, and kids' toys and board games. The store’s lighting was completely replaced with retrofitted LED bulbs, walls were freshly painted, repairs were made to damaged areas of the building, and an additional register was added to help cut down on customer wait times at check out.
“We are sincerely thankful for Mr. Nyman’s generous donation to The Salvation Army,” said Lt. Colonel Douglas Tollerud, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army in Alaska. “Donations like this, whether to a specific program or for those in the most need, are truly a blessing to those we serve. The changes made to the Family Thrift Store offer a more welcoming environment to our patrons and help us continue to support social services in Anchorage through thrift sales.”
Media is welcome to attend a recognition ceremony at 9:15 AM which will include Mr. Nyman’s spouse, Mrs. Janice Blanchard. The ceremony will take place inside the store prior to the grand reopening which will take place at 10:00 AM.
