The Salvation Army Starts Christmas Giving Season with Hope Marches On Campaign

Early giving could be key to keeping families in their homes this holiday season, says nation’s largest private provider of social services

Anchorage, AK (September 21, 2021) – As the pandemic continues and Christmas quickly approaches, the organization is digging in for another challenging season of need. As thousands of people continue to struggle with the impacts of pandemic poverty, The Salvation Army of Alaska recently kicked off the 100 days until Christmas countdown and is calling on everyone to help individuals and families overcome the threat of lacking resources to provide for themselves amid the holiday season.

Social services organizations like The Salvation Army have worked tirelessly to provide help and hope since the pandemic started, but needs are increasing again this holiday season because of the threat of evictions and a resurging pandemic.

The Salvation Army is steadfast on the frontlines of need to ensure hope marches on. The organization estimates a large increase in need will occur through the holiday season due to the eviction moratorium being lifted.

 “With the ongoing pandemic, The Salvation Army of Alaska anticipates requests for service to continue to increase this holiday season,” said Lt. Colonel Doug Tollerud, Divisional Commander, The Salvation Army Alaska Division. “With the public’s generosity, The Salvation Army will continue to provide help and hope to assist as many individuals and families in need as possible.”

In fiscal year 2020, The Salvation Army of Anchorage helped 76,928 Alaskans, provided 298,758 meals, transitioned 256 families into permanent housing, and distributed 37,750 toys and gifts throughout the holidays. Thank you for the impact that you have made on the lives of those we serve.

Now more than ever, The Salvation Army needs your help. The following options are available for those wishing to support their neighbors in need:

  • Enlist in Love's Army with a sustaining gift of $25 per month;
  • Sign up to volunteer at your local Salvation Army to ring bells at the red kettle (The Salvation Army is applying national safety protocols at all red kettles to ensure the safety of bell ringers, donors, and partners);
  • Distribute Angel Tree gifts to children in need;
  • Donate digitally with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo at any red kettle across the country;
  • Donate cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin or Ethereum for the first year ever;
  • Ask Amazon Alexa to donate by saying, "Alexa, donate to The Salvation Army," then specifying the amount;
  • Give any amount by texting "KETTLES" to 51555;
  • Provide new toys and clothing through The Salvation Army Angel Tree for local children of families in need.

Every donation helps hope march on for those in need, and all gifts stay within the community in which they are given. Visit Alaska.salvationarmy.org to donate or learn more about how you can help this year.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.
