Wells Fargo Foundation Grants $25,000 to The Salvation Army for COVID-19 Response Support
Wells Fargo helps The Salvation Army provide to those struggling amidst pandemic
The Salvation Army Alaska Division recently received a $25,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation for COVID-19 response and operating support throughout the state. March through May of 2020, The Salvation Army has provided over 10,000 nights of lodging, nearly 90,000 meals, 2,990 personal protective equipment items and hundreds of instances of financial assistance to Alaskans in need. In addition, Salvation Army officers have responded to 4,646 Alaskans in need of emotional and spiritual care throughout city and state hunker-down mandates and in the following months.
“The contribution made by the Wells Fargo Foundation has allowed The Salvation Army to serve thousands of families and individuals who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in Alaska and will allow us to continue to serve those in need,” said Major John Brackenbury, The Salvation Army Alaska Divisional Commander. “We are eternally grateful for Wells Fargo Foundation’s generosity to help those in our community who have suffered emotionally and financially during the pandemic.”
The Wells Fargo Foundation has donated $585,000 to support Alaska nonprofits meeting critical community needs such as food, shelter, housing stability and small business support during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In times of immense, widespread community need, it’s important that we work together,” said Greg Deal, Wells Fargo Alaska region bank president. “We’re grateful for the leadership of The Salvation Army Alaska Division as they care for our most vulnerable residents. We hope our support provides a measure of relief as we stand with Alaskans during this challenging situation.”
Throughout the United States, The Salvation Army has provided 12.89 million meal items, 1.77 million food boxes and over one million nights of lodging in addition to emotional and spiritual care, hygiene kits and infant supplies. While many Americans are returning to financial stability through state and federal benefits as well as gainful employment, The Salvation Army continues to be available to support those in the most need.
