Word From the Divisional Commander

Jul 22, 2019 | by Lessa Peter

Dear Friends,

The Alaska Division has had a busy start to the year and it’s hard to believe we are already halfway through. From statewide worship at Alaska Congress to supplying the demand of relief during wildfires to fundraising for Good, we have been blessed to serve this great state.

Each year, The Salvation Army celebrates June as the time of change and renewal and we have had several changes this year to our officer service locations and duties. First, I would like to thank Lt. Colonels Dan and Helen Starrett and Captains Lance and Dana Walters for their dedication and work in their respective Corps locations in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Colonels Starrett and Captains Walters have relocated to locations out of state where they will continue the mission to serve God. In addition, we are happy to welcome new and returning officers to Alaska who are already nearly a month into their new assignments. You can read more about the changes later in this e-newsletter.

The past months have been a whirlwind of activities at the state and territorial level for The Salvation Army Alaska Division. Currently, we are in high need of Jingle July bell ringers at Walmart locations across the state. More information about Jingle in July is in this newsletter, but if you are interested in helping us ring the bell the last Saturday in July, please contact your local Corps or, if you are located in the Anchorage area, sign-up to ring the bell online here.

With school starting next month, Corps in Alaska will be gearing up to collect school supply donations from generous community members who have donated school supplies at local Fred Meyers stores. We encourage you to reach out to your local Corps on how you can help relieve the need for struggling families by providing something as simple as school supplies.

As months continue to the new year following, remember, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured in your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Many Blessings,

Major John Brackenbury
