Volunteers Needed!

Bell Ringing and Stuff the Bus Events

Because need knows no season, Walmarts across Alaska are once again leading the annual Jingle in July campaign. Every Friday and Saturday from 12 - 7 PM at Walmarts in Alaska, you will hear a jingle of bells welcoming you to the store. Bell ringers are helping The Salvation Army raise funds for local programs and services helping our neighbors who need it most.

Although we are more than halfway through the month, bell ringing volunteers are still needed for the last Saturday in July. If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to your local Salvation Army Corps to sign-up. If you are located in the Anchorage area (including Eagle River), you can sign-up for 2.5 hour shifts online at https://volunteer.usawest.org

While volunteers are needed to help Saturdays, Walmart employees will be ringing the bell each Friday to encourage passersby to spare change to help raise funds for The Salvation Army. Last year, with Walmart’s help, The Salvation Army was able to raise over $33,000 at Walmarts across Alaska during the first ever Jingle in July campaign. This year, Walmart and The Salvation Army are hoping to raise $40,000 for the Army’s critical social services programs.

“Walmart believes in saving people money, so they can live better. We also believe in helping people live their best life – and so does The Salvation Army Alaska Division, which is helping people live better through their services. Our Jingle in July efforts demonstrate our commitment to support Alaskan’s seeking better lives,” stated Brad Spitz, Walmart Market Manager for Alaska.

In addition, volunteers are need on August 3 for the annual Stuff the Bus event collecting school supplies for children. Salvation Army vehicles will be parked at Walmarts in Alaska for a full day to Stuff the Bus for children in need. Contact your local Salvation Army Corps to learn how to sign-up to volunteer to ring the bell and collect school supplies during the day.

You can also host a Coats for Kids Donation Box! July 29 – August 23, organizations across Alaska will be collecting new and gently used Coats for Kids ages 0-18. To learn more, contact 907-276-2515.
